What a Big Head
"If you can keep your head when those about you are losing
theirs, perhaps you've misunderstood the situation."
Tiring Easily?
To check if your tires have enough tread left, take a penny and stick into the gap between the treads upside down. When the amount of tread anywhere on the tire is less than the distance from the top of Lincoln's head to the closest edge of the penny, your tires are no longer safe and need to be replaced.
Self Exposure On Film
When filing for an insurance claim on stolen or destroyed property, your case could be denied if there is no proof that you had possession of the item before (i.e. - receipts). The best thing you can do is make a video tape or take pictures of all your possessions once a year and then leave them with a friend or relative who lives out-of-state (that way a hurricane or other calamity is unlikely to destroy both your property and the proof).
Damn, That's Cold
Although it's not very energy conservative, keeping your fridge at a setting that keeps the inside at 32 to 34 degrees (fahrenheit -- or zero to one degree Celsius) will make food last substantially past the expiration date. Milk for example, will not sour for an additional 5 to 7 days if kept at the edge of freezing.
She's Da Bomb
When cleaning, never use chlorine or chlorine-based cleaners (such as Clorox Clean-up) in the same room as ammonia based cleaners (such as Windex). When the two chemicals mix (including when their vapors mix), the result is a poisonous gas that can damage your lungs or even kill you. Having a fan running in a window while using any cleaners is wise.
Lube Her Up
Motor oil and gasoline can soak right through your skin and are carcinogenic. So, next time you work with either of these compounds, make sure not to get them on your skin OR wear rubber or surgical gloves and protective wear.
Get to the Point
When drilling with a handheld drill, always make a point in the material to be drilled first, to keep the bit from skipping away from the intended drilling point. With wood and drywall, a sharp pencil can make the indent; with metal, a punch is necessary.
A Lot of Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing
"If I had only known, I would have been a locksmith."
-- Albert Einstein, reviewing his life.
Geesh, Your Balls
Regulation golf balls have 336 dimples in them, to help them fly straight and true. For the most part, where your hand breaks (where your wrist snaps over) is more important to the travel of the ball than the arc of your swing.
Getting Off
To clean computer monitors, spray some windex directly onto a paper towel and then wipe the screen. By doing so, you'll avoid the chance of getting liquid inside the monitor and burning out the circuitry.
